Mapping with AI

Presented by Fred Gibbs

History Commons (MVH 1104)

Use AI to build three kinds of maps, from a quick pin map of your notes to archival data drawn over a historic map, and check where it puts each place.

  • Organize research on a web mapTurn a list of places from your notes into an interactive map, with each pin linking to your sources and observations.
  • Map an archive's place dataHave AI pull place names from archival records into a spreadsheet, check its coordinates, and build a map interface for browsing them.
  • Layer data on historic mapsFit a scanned historic map to real coordinates and draw routes and sites over it to compare the map's world with ours.
