Reliable AI for Humanists is a brown bag workshop series run by Amaranth, a digital humanities and public scholarship studio at the University of New Mexico. Sessions are 50 minutes long and hands-on, and they’re open to anyone at UNM: undergraduates, graduate students, staff, and faculty.
What it’s for
There are plenty of opinions about AI, but not often much shared experience. These sessions try to build a community of practice around using AI in the humanities.
We start from a simple premise: it’s hard to decide how to use AI in research, or whether to teach about it, with it, or against it, without knowing how it behaves. Let’s experiment together!
What we assume
- No experience. If you’ve never used one of these tools, this is a fine place to start.
- No subscription. Everything works on free accounts, so you can follow along.
- No particular view on AI. Skeptics and enthusiasts are equally welcome.
- Your judgment matters most. These tools are most useful when they support your expertise and least useful when they try to replace it. Every session is designed around that difference.
Materials
Everything from each session lives on this site: the session pages, with every prompt, transcript and practice text alongside the exercise it belongs to. You’re welcome to reuse any of it in your own classes or workshops. If you adapt something, we’d love to hear how it went.
